In His Image

“Bezel El (Shadow of God)” by Meghan Williams, Dyed4you Art

Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) So God created man in His [own] image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

In the opening of Genesis, we are told that humanity has been made in the image or shadow of God—in Hebrew, tselem (Strong’s H6754). Something that I have frequently meditated on is what this term tselem means. This meditation most often happens when I’m going through trials and tribulations. During these times when my soul is grieved, and I’m searching for the righteous path through the chaos of life, I will hear my Heavenly Father’s still small voice saying, “Come back into My shadow.” I‘ve come to understand that He means this is several ways.

Firstly, He is reminding me that it is only under His shade—tsêl (Strong’s 6738)that we have any hope of finding real comfort and peace. Sometimes if we are not careful, life’s difficulties can chase us out of our hiding place in God instead of remaining in Him. Nothing in the world can refresh and sustain us better than our Source. In the heat of trials, when I pause to listen for His voice, I can tell that I have unintentionally moved out of His shadow. It is like standing outside on an incredibly hot day and completely avoiding the shade of a nearby tree. While the shade doesn’t compare to air conditioning, I would be a fool not to abide there when left with no other choice. Plus, there is sweet fruit from the tree that revives and sustains me.

Secondly, I know that by calling me to come back into His shadow, the Father is also referring to His image. One can say that, during troubles, we are tempted to lose our mind—or lose the mind of Christ. We can quickly forget who we are and the vows we have made to His covenant. Trials always require a response from us, but what will our response be? Will we let the trials disconnect us from our Source, leaving us with only the resources of our flesh? Or will we continue to abide and bear the fruits of the Spirit while under pressure—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control? We have a choice in difficulties even when we may feel like we don’t.

When trials come—and as our Savior told us, they certain will come—they become an opportunity for God to build His character into us. The more we yield to the process and are mindful of the point of the difficulties, the more we will have access to the life-giving flow of the Holy Spirit. And the more of God’s Spirit that we are able to receive, the more we are able to accurately hear His voice and reflect His image in the earth—in both good times and bad.

Galatians 5:22-24 (TPT) But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions:

joy that overflows,
peace that subdues,
patience that endures,
kindness in action,
a life full of virtue,
faith that prevails,
gentleness of heart, and
strength of spirit.

Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.

You Are Light

“Illuminating Light” by Meghan Williams, Dyed4you Art

Beloved, you are a luminary. I made you to be My light in the earth, a vessel arrayed in all My glory. Just as I set the stars in the sky to shine as guiding lights to the earth, so I have called you.

As you stand bathed in My glory, whom shall you fear, beloved? The darkness has no power, for I have equipped you to expel it. Even now, the roar of My authority is awakening within you. Resist the urge to fear this new level of anointing or how walking in it will transform your life. Yes, to arise as My luminary means that others will look to you. This weight of My glory and My call on your life can seem daunting. Yet I raise you up to be an influence for good. I set this portion of My Kingdom upon your shoulders that others may look to you and see Me reflected in every aspect of your life.

Remember that the weight of the entire world does not rest upon your shoulders. I do not call you to be the source of the Light—for I Am the true Source—I call you simply to reflect Me. Therefore, arise and shine boldly, beloved. Let My radiance break through your inner man. Stand up and step forward as a bold representative of My Kingdom, a vessel of My love made manifest.

Genesis 1:14-15 (AMPC)And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God’s provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years, And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth. And it was so.

Isaiah 60:1-3 (VOICE) Arise, shine, for your light has broken through! The Eternal One’s brilliance has dawned upon you. See truly; look carefully—darkness blankets the earth; people all over are cloaked in darkness. But God will rise and shine on you; the Eternal’s bright glory will shine on you, a light for all to see. Nations north and south, peoples east and west, will be drawn to your light, will find purpose and direction by your light. In the radiance of your rising, you will enlighten the leaders of nations.

Power Couples: It’s Time to Shine

Strong’s H215 shine אוֹר ʼôwr, ore; a primitive root; to be (causative, make) luminous (literally and metaphorically):—break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.

I originally received the following word for a beautiful couple at my church. The word went along with an art piece I made as a wedding present called “Shine”. I sensed that this word for them, along with the song I wrote and sang at their wedding, spoke of them as a couple that God had strategically brought together for His purposes. I also sensed that it applied to other “power couples” God was raising up in the earth (married or to be married).
