To Love and Fear God

“No Other Gods” – by Meghan Williams of Dyed4you Art

Deuteronomy 10:12 (VOICE) And now, Israel, what is the Eternal your God asking of you? Only that you fear Him, live as He wants you to, and love Him; serve Him with every part of you, heart and soul;

For much of my faith journey, I have struggled to understand how a believer can both fear and love God. It always seemed that fear and love were an antithesis to one another. Through many preachers I had been told that God had the right to wipe me from existence for any one of my sins. How could I love and get close to someone who had the power to take my life?

Yet God’s sovereignty is multi-dimensional. He has supreme authority over all of existence, and that means He has as much power to command life as He does to command death. As Judge and King, He sets the rules for what is permissible and what is not permissible. And like the laws of physics, the firmness and truth of His existence and His commandments are not dependent upon our acknowledgement of them. YHVH our God has been, is, and ever will be. We can’t help but have reverential fear for God when we are able to grasp the breadth of His sovereignty.

However, our love for God can also be found as we acknowledge who He is in both character and power. He has a deep understanding of the forces of existence; therefore, He knows which forces bring about life and which ones bring about death. As His children and His heirs, He hasn’t brought us into being only to abandon us to the chaos of creation. He is a Father who has loved us enough to give us His instructions—His Word. That Word is our guide, meant to show us how to remain in God’s light where we will always have access to life.

Our Father and King, calls us to follow Him and walk in the Light. And yet, if we are to follow Him, we must do so with fear and respect for who He is and the authority that He holds. We are to acknowledge God just as we acknowledge our earthly authorities—our parents, teachers, pastors, police officers, military, and so on. We fear these authorities because they have the power to discipline us when we are out of line. And yet, we also love them because they provide for and protect us—our livelihood, future, and safety rest in their hands. How much more ought we both love and fear God, our ultimate Father, Teacher, Judge, and King?

Rise Up

“Wake Up” – by Meghan Williams, Dyed4you Art

Rise up, My people, rise up. The alarm sounds for the time of war, and I need you to be awake and vigilant. There is much territory for the kingdom of light to take, and I have fully equipped you to cast out the kingdom of darkness. Therefore, take care not become lax and forget who you are and what I have called you to do. Resist the voice of defeat which would have you believe you are a victim of any earthly circumstance. Shake off the weariness of past battles fought in your own strength. A new day of war is ahead—a war already won by My might and My Spirit.

Behold, you are not ordinary—you are extraordinary, beloved ones. Your citizenship belongs to the Kingdom which is above. To possess a heavenly citizenship carries more weight than you realize. You are My kingly priests anointed for war, commissioned to take territory in My name. Resist the urge to become overwhelmed or discouraged by your commission; everything that you need to walk in this high calling is found in My all-encompassing Presence.

I have given you heavenly armor that will protect you from every attack of the evil one. And by My Spirit, you carry My holy vessels into the earthly battlefield. No weapon formed against you can prosper. No judgment made against you can stand. And no battle is too fierce for you, My people. For the Lion of the Tribe of Judah is always with you. When you rise up, I arise with you. When you agree to follow My lead and take new territory, I fight on your behalf. Therefore, again I say, My people, rise up! Rejoice, for your victory is always assured!

1 Peter 5:8 (AMPC) Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

Numbers 10:35 (NKJV) So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said: “Rise up, O LORD! Let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee before You.”

Numbers 23:24 (VOICE) Look at this people rise up like a lion, like a lion who gets up and does not lie down until it devours its prey, even drinking the blood of the slain.

Remain in My Love

My dear anointed ones, weighty is your call to speak and act on My behalf. It is weighty with great honor for you are My chosen vessels. However, this mantle was never meant to be a weighty burden to you. It will only become so if you do not abide in Me. It is not your responsibility to carry the weight of your calling or your gifts. I have appointed you to carry the weight of My glory, the essence of Who I Am. I, in turn, carry you by the power of My Spirit. In this way, My yoke is made easy and My burden light.

To do the work I have called you to, you must remain in My love. Live in My love. My world must become your predominate dwelling place, not the earth. Like a sea animal that is capable of living on both the land and in the waters, make every effort to return to the deep waters of My Spirit in between your daily activities in the world.  When you are immersed in Me, I pour all of My love and life into you. This empowers you to pour out My love and life into the dry places in the earth.

Yes, there is nowhere that you can go where I Am not. In Me, all creation lives and moves and has its being. Yet the paradox of your existence is that, although you are always in Me, you must work to renew your intimate connection to Me through the practice of abiding. Take every opportunity to abide, beloved. Draw aside and shift your gaze back towards Me, the lover of your soul. As much as possible, seek My ways and My thoughts.

By seeking your resting place in Me, it is there that I will recalibrate your attitude and perspective so that it remains in harmony with Me. If you do not do this, you will begin to feel your attitudes shift outside the frame of My love. You will find that your strength in Me begins to wane. It is then that you will feel the weight of your calling as you begin to resonate with the frequency of the world instead of the frequency of My love. Your thoughts will become misaligned in varying degrees if you do not return to My Presence for refreshing.

Precious one, there is grace in this process, but this is the most vital key to your mission on earth. I want you to remember that, when you feel the weight of your calling, that is the time to seek Me. Do not hesitate. Do not look to the world for strength. Do not lament and beat yourself up in your human weaknesses, for you were never meant to go it alone. Return to My love and your resting place in Me, for this is where you were made to dwell. From this place of unity with Me, I will renew your strength and empower you to do every good work that I have called you to.

Matthew 11:29-30 (TPT) Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.

John 15:5 (AMPC) I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

Be Consumed By Me

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV) Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

Beloved, remember there is no fear in love for perfect love casts out fear. You have had encounters with My heart, brushes with My Presence, and you have known times of sweet unity as My Spirit has poured through you like water. Yes, My love is overwhelming—both refreshing, living waters and an all-consuming fire. And that love for you never changes in its intensity. It is only the fear of losing yourself and being changed as you are swept away by My love that causes you to hold back and causes you to hesitate in reciprocating My love in kind.

There will always be more, precious—so much more. Therefore, walking with Me will always require some measure of moving beyond your comfort zone and resisting the fear of change. The fires of My zeal for you burn hotly, so there is loss as all the dross burns away. I care for you too deeply to allow any hinderance to prevent you from being the flawless beauty that I created you to be. I am ever challenging you to change in order to gain the fullness of My anointing and the fullness of My abundant, eternal life.

Upon the cross, I poured out all and held nothing back, beloved. I looked upon you and deemed that you were worth the risk of giving all My love. Will you walk in the same sacrificial love? Will you be bold and courageous, pursuing the depths of My heart and holding nothing back from Me? Resist the urge to try to protect yourself or hide, for your heart and your life are safe when you choose Me as your hiding place. Take a leap and let go, allowing your love and your zeal to match My own. When you live from this place, you will not permit anything to exalt itself against the knowledge of Me nor stand against the manifestation of My Kingdom. Bravely walk as a living sacrifice and be consumed by Me.

Romans 12:1 (TPT) Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.

Walking in Humble Authority

“The Alabaster Jar” (Featuring the Hebrew letter dalet)

Acts 3:6 (VOICE) Peter: I want to give you something, but I don’t have any silver or gold. Here’s what I can offer you: stand up and walk in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, the Anointed One.

In the ancient pictograph language, the Hebrew letter dalet represents a door or an impoverish and humble man. It is preceded by the letter gimel which is representative of a camel or rich man. Within this area of the Hebrew alphabet, there is the picture of a rich man who stoops down (like a camel with a burden) to give to a poor and humble man. It is the picture of our relationship with God, and our relationship with our fellow man. It is also a powerful key to flowing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 3:6, Peter addresses a crippled and poor man. Peter’s pockets are empty of silver and gold. One could say that he is impoverished too. And yet, he gives the crippled man what he does have—and it’s certainly not chump change. Peter stoops down like a camel to lift the poor man up. Power from on high flows through Peter, and the man is miraculously healed! Peter’s physical pockets were empty, and yet he became the vessel that supernaturally met this man’s need!

Covenant Partnership

Deuteronomy 7:9 (VOICE) I want you to know that the Eternal your God is the only true God. He’s the faithful God who keeps His covenants and shows loyal love for a thousand generations to those who in return love Him and keep His commands.

As I have walked with God, there have been numerous times when He reaffirms His personal promises to me. When He does this, it is always in a time when my hope in those promises needs some resuscitation. God is so gracious. He knows how hard it is for us to hang onto His promises through the storms of life. He sees all and knows with certainty that His plan for us is good and well worth the wait. But God also knows that we desperately need His strength to hold onto His Word. As difficult as waiting on God can be at times, I have to say that I am always challenged and changed as God reveals Himself to me throughout the waiting process.

One time, when hope was waning in my heart, God showed me how invested He was in His promises to me. In an instant, I saw that the manifestation of my dreams were more than a way for Him to lavish His love and blessings upon me. Yes, He is zealous for me, and I am humbled that He cares enough to have even made such promises. However, I was reminded that through those promises, God had become my covenant partner. Like Noah, Abraham, David, and so many others, God invested His own desires, hopes, and dreams into my promises. And because I love Him so, I gladly made room for Him.

Through the years, I have watched God nurture my dreams like tiny seeds. They have flourished in His hands into something far larger than I could have ever imagined on my own. But in order to continue holding onto His ever-expanding promises, my faith has had to grow too. I am like a woman with child, and my womb has been stretched to capacity! Being pregnant with God’s promises suddenly means that more than just my own life is involved. If I stop believing in God’s promises, I will literally prevent the manifestation of His kingdom on earth.

I often wonder if Abraham understood the gravity of God’s promises to him. Even after the birth of Isaac and facing the sacrifice of his son, could Abraham have imagined what God would do through his descendants? Because Abraham chose to believe and obey God, his faith led to the birth of the nation of Israel. The nation of Israel led to the birth of the Messiah. And the Messiah ultimately has paved the way for the birthing of the sons of God. If Abraham had let go of God’s promises, there would be no gospel. There would be no outpouring of the Holy Spirit. You and I would not get to delight in covenantal union with God.

And this is basically the point of being God’s covenant partner. His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. God cares for us so much that He has invested all of Himself in His promises. He is all in. God’s promises are just as much a risk for us as they are for Him. If we do not uphold them through faith, then who will? This means faith in God’s promises is about more than mental ascent—it is about mutuality, trust, loving sacrifice, and it requires radical obedience.

Romans 4:3 (VOICE) because as the Scriptures say, “Abraham believed God and trusted in His promises, so God counted it to his favor as righteousness.”
